Jean Paul Gaultier is a French fashion designer who successfully went his own way. He is not a specially trained fashion designer. His talent, however, showed up very early. He sent fashion sketches to Pierre Cardin. He was very impressed by his abilities and hired the young career changer as his assistant. A few years later, the young fashion designer founded Jean Paul Gaultier SA. He created exclusive haute couture collections in Paris. Many of his designs originate from the idea of everyday clothing, as well as pop culture. While his haute couture creations are in part strictly formal, they are also very playful. In 1993, the Frenchman launched his first women’s fragrance creation.
