Maximise the fragrance: where to apply perfume

To ensure that your favourite fragrance accompanies you throughout the day, you need to apply it in the right place. Warm, well-circulated areas of the body, such as the neck and wrists, are particularly suitable as the warmth of these areas intensifies the fragrance.

  • Wrists: The inside of your wrists are ideal for applying your perfume as they are particularly soft and well-circulated.

  • Inner elbows: Not to be confused with the outer elbow, you can apply your perfume between your upper and lower arm in the crook of your elbow. The good circulation and intense warmth ensure that the fragrance is particularly strong here.

  • Neck: Just a few sprays of perfume on your neck are enough to achieve a long-lasting result. The fragrance spreads easily to the hair, ensuring that the scent lasts longer.

  • Hair: If you spray your perfume directly onto your hair, the fragrance may not develop immediately as it would on other parts of your body. However, it ensures the fragrance lasts a particularly long time. Be aware that perfume has a high alcohol content. If applied frequently, it can dry out the hair.

  • Clothes: Perfume also lasts a particularly long time on clothing. When applying your perfume, you should bear in mind that laundry detergent itself is often highly perfumed and fragrances mix easily. Just a few sprays on textiles are enough. Make sure you hold the bottle a sufficient distance away to avoid staining your clothes.

How much perfume should I use?

It is necessary to differentiate between the different dilution classes of perfume. While you can be more generous when applying an Eau de Toilette, two to a maximum of four sprays are completely sufficient for an Eau de Parfum. Too much perfume can quickly come across as intrusive to those around you.

Optimal use and storage

For a long-lasting fragrance experience, it is important to apply the perfume properly. The best time to do so is right after showering when the skin’s pores are still open. The perfume should not be rubbed in. However, some friction is often unavoidable, especially when applying the fragrance to the wrists. Rubbing destroys valuable fragrance molecules, causing the perfume to immediately lose its intensity. Instead, the perfume should be given about a minute to dry on the skin.

The duration of a perfume’s effect depends on the type of fragrance. Eau de Parfum contains a higher fragrance content of 10 to 14 per cent and therefore lasts longer. In comparison, Eau de Cologne or Eau de Toilette can dissipate after just half a day.

To maintain the quality of the perfume for longer, correct storage is crucial. The perfume should be protected from direct sunlight and stored in a cool, dark place at a maximum of 20 degrees Celsius. It is also advisable to use the perfume within a year in order to preserve the intensity of the fragrance.

Takeaway

It is essential to apply perfume properly in order to achieve a long-lasting fragrance effect. The optimal time to apply perfume is right after showering so that the open pores of the skin can absorb the fragrance optimally. To ensure your perfume can be perceived very intensely, you should apply it to warm, well-circulated areas of the body such as the neck or wrists. Stick to a moderate application – often just a subtle touch of Eau de Parfum is enough to leave the desired impression. Store your perfume in a cool, dark place to preserve its quality in the long term.
